Studying in the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) is a dream of every engineering student in India. The IIT colleges in India were formed to prepare scientists and engineers. In 1951, the first-ever Indian Institute of technology was made in Kharagpur, West Bengal. They are autonomous public institutes for higher technical education, most popular for their BTech programs. There are 23 total numbers of IIT present in India governed by the institute of technology act, 1961 and are declared as important institutes of the nation by the Indian parliament.
The admission into all the IIT colleges in India is carried out through the entrance examinations, namely JEE main and JEE advanced. Applicants must appear and clear these two phases - firstly JEE Mains and then JEE advanced in their first attempt conducted by JoSSA. Qualifying in both the examinations is compulsory to secure a seat in the institute. Every time getting admitted to an IIT institute is highly competitive as many applicants appear for the exam and there are a limited number of seats.
IITs are well known for offering various engineering programs that include civil engineering, computer science engineering, electrical engineering and mechanical engineering and more. Candidates need to pass 10 + 2 examinations with mathematics, chemistry and physics as main subjects. After appearing in JEE mains and JEE advanced examinations, one must appear in the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) counselling. The admissions to all the user programs return in a single counselling platform.
