M.Tech Degree as it is a high cadre qualification. If you are only a B.Tech it would apparently take years of experience for you to reach to such a position. M Tech is what makes you a specialist in your work area and gives you an edge over others with Bachelor's degrees.

What is M.E.?

Master of Engineering degree (abbreviated MEng., M.E. or M.Eng.) can be either an academic or professional master's degree in the field of engineering.

Master of Engineering or Master of Technology or Master of Science in Technology or Master of Science in Engineering degree is a postgraduate program in engineering or technology field. This is generally a 2-year (2.5 years for M.Sc.Eng.) specialization program in a specific branch of engineering or a technical field. Students typically enter the M.Eng./M.Tech./M.Sc.Eng. /M.Sc.Tech. programs after completing a 4-year undergraduate program in engineering resulting in the award of a Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Technology degree, or a 5-year program in Science or Applied Sciences resulting in the award of a Master of Science degree.

What is the difference between ME and M.Tech?

Previously some universities gave ME as Master in engineering and some other universities gave M.Tech (Master in technology) both post graduate degrees in engineering. Initially IITs gave B.Tech and M.Tech. Now every varsity gives that. Only the name matters. When I studied Keral University gave B.Sc (Engineering) for a five year course in engineering. Many people mistaken it as ordinary B.Sc.

M.E. is usually designed for students who plan for employment upon graduation and who are already in the engineering workforce. It aims to develop business awareness and it normally focuses on engineering ground. A degree in M.E. not only helps in getting a lucrative job in the field of interest but also help in continuing research work in respective fields. It includes a lot of practical work.

The major objective of this programmer is to produce Research Engineers who can get the position of "Technologist" in the industries and research institutes.

But you look at the syllabus of both you will find lots of similarities between both.
